                                             The Martin Family Mystery

In the New Year of 1959, as Toastmasters through the northwest packed up their holiday decorations,
they thought about the family that did not get to have a Christmas or New Year.

Kenneth and Barbara Martin were well known Toastmasters. The Martins and their three daughters
had gone on a short afternoon trip up the gorge to get holiday greenery. That was just before Christmas.
When they did not return everyone was deeply saddened knowing that they must have had an accident.
The odd thing was- that in spite of searches the car and the five family members had still not been found
                 by January 1959.

Now there were whispers that possibly all was not as it seemed with the idyllic family. Did the son, the
only surviving member of the family, have something to do with the disappearance? There were rumors
about the teenage daughter too. Perhaps the out of the way trip to get greenery was a cover for something
else. What about those two nefarious looking men that were near where the family was last seen? Was the
father Kenneth Martin planning to meet up with these men? Did these two men run into the family and
commit a crime of opportunity? On the other hand, there continue to be reported sightings of members
of the family. Could they be alive? What might they be hiding from?

This is a true Northwest Toastmasters’ unsolved mystery. Perhaps you have been told something or seen
something that can help unravel this puzzle. Learn more in our next edition of Voices!.
