THOUGHTS FROM THE SIDELINE

        New Year Resolutions

        Eldred Brown, DTM, IPDD

Have you made your 2023 New Year’s every Monday, Wednesday, and

Resolutions yet? If so, are you still following Friday pushing weights in
them? I must admit. I’ve never in my 51 years the gym. I’m consistently
known what to think about making New Year’s working out on Monday
resolutions for myself. It may be a good way for mornings, and I’ve started

me to conduct an annual evaluation of where to gain some consistency
I am, where I want to be, and what I need to on Friday afternoons,
do to get there. but my work schedule, at
At the same time, I observe two or three least one, sometimes two,

New Year’s Days every year. There’s the Toastmasters meetings,
Orthodox Christian New Year on September and a weekly church choir
1, and there’s the Toastmasters New Year on rehearsal always makes it
July 1. As much as I have invested my time and hard for me to make the time

energy into Toastmasters, I often think July for a Wednesday workout.
1 a more important New Year than January One resolution I made for
      1. Okay. On which New Year do I make my January 1, 2023, was to conduct
resolutions? Do I even make resolutions? an inventory of where I am on Pathways

I suppose I do make New Year’s resolutions, and where I want to be. I must admit that,
though they’re often for a different New Year. during my years on the Trio, I kinda let my
On July 1 of 2022, I resolved to devote more District leadership duties take up a lot of the
time to practicing my trombone and working time I could have devoted to writing and

out in the gym. How have I done? I would say preparing speeches for my Toastmasters
my results are mixed. Not counting my two clubs. Even after I concluded my service as
weekly orchestra rehearsals and my weekly your District Director, I still kinda winged it
trombone lesson, I figure I’m averaging maybe in Pathways with no clear idea of where I was.

three hours per week. I would like to practice I did spend a couple of hours of my MLK Day
for five hours a week, but my work so often holiday getting caught up with my Pathways
gets in the way. Same goes for my exercise progress to identify what my next steps
routine. I would like to spend 90 minutes need to be there. I’m quite pleased with that
