Clackamas County Toastmasters

Intelligent, humorous, engaged, confident, connected, compassionate,
committed and most of all, inspiring. Fellow Toastmasters, these 8 -
“Words of the Day” encapsulate both the spirit and philosophy of Clackamas County
Toastmasters.
One of two County clubs first chartered in August of 2014, by Clackamas County
Director of Public and Government Affairs, Gary Schmidt, DTM, PIP and culminating as
part of the 2012 - 2013 Clackamas County Leadership Academy, “Charting the Future:
Assessment and Design for a Workforce Development Program”. This year-long project
was in response to a need due in part to the impending departure of many employees
nearing the age of retirement within the County’s seasoned workforce. The need for
project management skills, communication
skills, improved efficiencies, collaboration,
career development and leadership were
findings from the Leadership Academy’s
needs assessment. Establishing a
Clackamas County Toastmasters Club to
help employees build relationships and
improve both communication and public
speaking skills, has become a corner stone
of this program.
Today you will find this burgeoning club has
already achieved their first Select
Distinguished Club status in part due to the
committed leadership and mentorship that
is the backbone of any club, but in greater
part due to the drive and commitment of
each member and also the collective
philosophy that makes this club so very
special. As members we see the potential
within individuals they may not see within themselves. We have witnessed amazing
growth within our members as they each travel their own unique journey and new
members are warmly welcomed through our door. This group is extremely creative and
