ONLINE CONNECTIONS
Choosing an Online Platform
Weighing Pluses, Minuses, and Interesting Points
Michelle Alba-Lim, DTM
Isn’t it amazing how quickly circumstances can
change?
A few weeks ago, clubs with online attendance
were the rare exception rather than the rule. I
felt like a voice in the wilderness when I’d post
or speak about online attendance. Many gave
me quizzical looks when they saw my “Ask me
about TOASTMASTERS ONLINE” button.
Now, more and more are exploring online
meetings. I’ve been bombarded with emails,
messages, and calls from people needing help
with shifting their clubs from onsite (physical)
to online (virtual) meetings.
Exciting times, indeed! Yet confusing and
even stressful for some.
A question I’m frequently asked is “What
online platform should we use?” Fortunately, the
saying “When the student is ready, the teacher
will appear!” is apt. During a recent webinar
organized by District 108, I was asked to speak
about the HOW and WHY of online meetings.
Ahead of me, District 95 Director Tobias
Schlosser spoke about ONLINE PLATFORMS.
He gave an excellent comparison of various
options.

are ‘three thousand words’ from District Director
Schlosser:
