e Coffman —Division B Member of the Month
I nominate Dave Coffman of the Yaquina Toastmasters to be
the Division B Member of the Month for April. Dave has
worked hard to promote his club during the past 9 months
since he took on the job of VP-PR. He established two Face
Book Pages (one public and one private) for the Yaquina
Toastmasters and regularly updates it with photos of club
events, outstanding moments during meetings, and member
accomplishments. He is always heralding the achievements
of the members of his club and sends Public Service Announcements to his local
newspaper.
This year, the Yaquina Toastmasters in Newport hosted the Area 34 International Speech and
Evaluation Contests. Over the years, Dave has always volunteered to be a contestant in all
Area 34 contests. This year, he stepped out of his comfort zone and decided to compete for
his other club in Lincoln City so that he could be the Contest Chair and Toastmaster for the
Area 34 Contests. In addition, he was the Refreshments Chair and he coordinated with his
club to provide a variety of delicious food items which were enjoyed by Toastmasters and
guests alike. Dave's leadership skills were very evident in the coordination and
implementation phases of hosting an Area contest.

Power isn't control at all—power is strength, and giving that strength
to others. A leader isn't someone who forces others to make him
stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his strength to others
that they may have the strength to stand on their own—Beth Revis,
author of Across the Universe trilogy.
