In the Competent Leadership manual there is a requirement to put
together a club event/completion. Kathy had a few ideas and the
one she chose touched many lives. Durrel Belanger is a past
Toastmaster who just turned 96 and lives at Friendsview in Newberg.
He's been wanting to visit his old TM club for a long time, but this
has been difficult due to health and weather conditions. Kathy
facilitated bringing the club to him. On Nov. 7th Newberg club 588
held it's meeting at Friendsview with Durrel as one of the speakers.
The theme was Veterans Day and there wasn't a dry eye in the group. I feel what Kathy did truly
exemplifies what the Toastmaster's mission is all about. Kathy deserves to be recognized.

Other honored nominees for November were:

Ciaran Hynes—A-Dec Toastmasters has been an inspiration for our club. He's the first member to
compete in humorous speech and table topics speech contests. He is active in our club and mentors
new members. He has great advice and feedback for all, and his sense of humor is amazing!

Ken L. Smith—Flying Toasters Club, Salem is a relatively new Toastmaster. He joined in May 2014.
He has competed in speech contests to the District level. He has volunteered to help with our open
house. Ken has scheduled completion of his Competent Communicator Award by year end.
He has volunteered to be club officer for next year. For these reasons, I nominate Ken L. Smith as
Division C Member of the Month.
