AUTUMN LEAVES

We all enjoy the spectacular dis-
play of fall foliage in Autumn. I love
to wake up to a clear sunny day in
autumn and watch the dazzling dis-
play the leaves bring forth. Hiking,
walking, running, or even just driving
around town they are on display for us
to view and photograph too.
When I was a child, we raked the
leaves into a big pile then jumped
into the pile and threw them into the
air. My parents served hot chocolate
and helped us grind the leaves up for
mulch. When hiking, I picked up the
fallen colorful leaves and today I find
them in my books - and some of those
are very old but still very bright.
Did you ever wonder why the
leaves change their color before they
fall from their trees? As the days grow
shorter the trees get less sunlight for
food. The tree stops producing chloro-
phyll which causes the fall leaf season
