Did You Say . . .

It's a new Toastmasters year, and I have some questions—what are you planning

to do to make a difference this year? How are you going to help your fellow
members be successful? What are you going to do when asked to lead or be part
of an Area, Division, or District project?
Invariably, when I ask these questions of my fellow clubmates, I hear
crickets and get the 40-yard stare, followed by a multitude of excuses. It really

is disheartening to know that the days of watching out for each other and an
attitude of "what can I do to help" have been replaced by a "not my job" mentality.
It seems that a malaise has settled over District 7's membership. Few have

answered the call to fill leadership roles or volunteered to help. The common
refrain is "let someone else do it!" But what if there is no one else? Organizations
such as ours do not remain viable without many hands sharing the work. Your
hands, talent, and knowledge are needed.
Think about what you are letting slip through your fingers because your

automatic response is "I can't." Experiential learning, career growth, and
networking are just three of the valuable, treasure trove of riches that await
those who say "Yes! Sign me up!" when opportunity knocks. EDITORIAL

So back to my original questions: What are you planning to do to make
a difference this Toastmasters year? How are you going to help your fellow
members be successful? What are you going to do when asked to lead or be part
of an Area, Division, or District project?
