The Glory of Spring

Phyllis Harmon, DTM, PDG - Publisher/Editor

Spring has sprung! My flowers are in bloom, the planters are bursing with

fledgling plants reaching towards the sun, and my Japanese Maples are in full
leaf. I feel the gloom and despair of Winter slowly fading away, as new life greets
me outside my door. The earth is waking up after a long winter’s nap, and I
rejoice in the newness of it all!

It is also the last quarter of this Toastmasters year. The busyness of springtime
is fully underway with Clubs holding special events to attract new members, others
focused on completing yearly goals, and the seemingly never-ending speech
contests soon to culminate in the Annual District 7 Conference on May 13-14th.

This will (hopefully) be the last year we hold the conference online. I miss the
energy and connectedness of gathering under one roof, the thunder of applause as
we congratulate our next District speech champions, and sharing meals together.
I mourn the loss of Toastmasters of pre-pandemic years.

Nevertheless, we have grown exponentially through new knowledge and skills
that will help us become stronger and more flexible in the years ahead. We have
linked arms around the world, learned about cultures different than our own, and EDITORIAL
shared our hopes and dreams with a diverse audience. Our District has survived—

a bit battered and bruised—but we are still here and better for it.
So as we move through the last three months of this Toastmasters year, laugh
out loud, share your hopes and visions of a brighter tomorrow with your fellow
Toastmasters, and take time to experience the glory of Spring.
