gview Clubs Celebrate Community
June 17, 2015 was a clear day, beautiful for
mid-June in the Pacific Northwest. The
afternoon was warm but not unpleasant.
The setting was Lake Sacajawea in Longview,
WA. Two Toastmasters clubs decided to have
a spring picnic to renew old bonds and to
use the occasion as a recruiting tool.
Early Words and Encouraging Words club
members gathered at 4:00 PM to share
potluck dishes and socialize. Patrick Locke,
the president of Early Words, kicked off the
event with a rousing introduction speech. A
fun round of Table Topics ensued as well as four entertaining impromptu speeches. The
guests got a little taste of what could be in store for them if they joined a Toastmasters
club. Fourteen members and 20 guests were in attendance. Longview City Manager,
David Campbell, attended with Mayor Don Jensen. Past Early Words president Jack
Radique led table topics.
Judging from the positive comments of the attendees, the Early Words/Encouraging
Words Toastmasters clubs’ social outing was well received.
