FROM THE WINGS
Tis the Season
(with a nod to Clement Clarke Moore)
PJ Kleffner, DTM
Immediate Past District Director
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through D7 No need to get angry or let out a shout.
Toastmasters were stirring, and speeches were given. Just pivot and turn it around in a way,
The Zoom links were working, or so we were told, That let’s you make up something to say.
But some of our members were left out in the cold. Remember you don’t need to stick to the truth,
The meeting was starting, we all took our place, But make sure your answer is nothing uncouth.
Some were in-person, while some cyberspace.
Now time for some feedback to help us all learn,
The gavel falls and calls us to order, It’s why we are here and what we all yearn.
Zoom lets us meet beyond country borders. Evaluations are how we can reach our next goal,
We meet other Toasties from near and afar, And not get a stocking just filled up with coal.
Some of these meetings we can’t get to by car. Sometimes our progress may seem to go slow,
Maybe by sleigh and eight flying reindeer, As we try out new things to help us all grow.
Or am I just dreaming after drinking much beer? There’s no need to worry or no need to wail,
This is a place where no one can fail.
The first speaker is up, we’ll see how it goes,
Then the timing light glows like Rudolf’s red nose. Outside of our clubs, the District is there,
How in the world does the time pass so fast? To give us support and tell us they care.
It’s always like that when you’re having a blast. On Eldred, on Lorri, on Jim, and the rest,
The Trio is working to make us the best.
The speeches are over, now send me a text, How can we thank them for all that they do?
I need some ideas, Table Topics are next. By doing our best to lift them up too.
When it’s my turn to speak, my mind might go blank, How we can do that is all up to you,
Sometimes it feels like I’m walking the plank. Stop talking at red and pay up your dues!
The goal is to speak for a minute or two, Now lift up your glass filled with holiday cheer,
But wait for the green to know you are through. Best wishes to all, and Happy New Year.
