Astoria Toastmasters club members
changed the name of their club to Coastal
Communicators. They celebrated their sixty
year anniversary on April 10, 2010 at the
Astoria Elliott Hotel with Gary Schmidt, Past
International President, as their guest speaker.
Club members participated in their first Coastal Communicators remains active as
Area 1 speech contest on Saturday at 6:30 pm Astoria Toastmasters Club.
March 10, 1951 at the Congress Hotel, Portland,
Oregon. Pat Casey and Ned Thorndyke were CHARTER PARTY PROGRAM
contest judges. Dave Head received the second Invocation: Dr. Blair Henningsgaard
place award for his speech titled Every Man His Toastmaster: Lloyd Burgess
Own Salesman. Charles Ross, Tillamook Club, Topics Master: Dr. George Thomas
was awarded first place. Club president Merrill Speaker: Bill Larson
Ginn was in attendance. Dr. Henry Duff served General Evaluator: Charles Dolph, Oregon
as the 1951 Club Deputy Governor. In 1956, A. Toastmasters Club
N. Thorndike became the first club member Address of Welcome: Don Nelson, Oregon
to serve an Area 1 Governor. Toastmasters Club and Past District
Hashim Shawa, DTM, became an Area 6 Governor
Governor in 1971. He moved on to Lt. Governor Installation of Officers: Leonard Lindas,
of Education and then District 7 Governor, District 7 Governor & Oregon City
1975-1976. This club held a joint meeting of Toastmasters member
