Thoughts on Aging Phyllis Harmon, DTM
by Phyllis A. Harmon, DTM Associate Publisher
Editor/Publisher Brenda Parsons, ACS, ALS
It’s come to my attention most recently that I may be getting
old. I’m repeatng the phrase you may be too young to remember Senior Editor
this more often to people who appear to be half my age. Phyllis Harmon, DTM
I am also more often googling phrases I‘m unfamiliar with.
Just the other day, I had to look up the phrase ‘Bachman Turner Associate Editors
Overdrive’. I couldn’t decide whether it was a special gear for
the car or a long-lost symphony. I never suspected it was the Leanna Lindquist, DTM
name of a Canadian rock group! (And, yes, I‘m very aware that Donna Stark, DTM
rock groups play loud, jarring “music”, and are not a consortium John Rodke, DTM
of gravel pit owners.)
Then there are those new-fangled smart phones everyone Layout/Design
is using. People laugh at me when I pull out my trusty Pantech
flip phone. This version is only 5 years old for heavens sake! Phyllis Harmon, DTM
It still connects me wth the right people—when I remember Curtis Low
their numbers. I can text on my phone if you force me to
(the numbers and screen seem to be shrinkng the older I get). 2016-17 Officers
However, with Google Voice I can type a text on my laptop District Director
and send it to your phone. I can also call you from my trusty Leanna Lindquist, DTM
laptop and talk with you face to face—on a full-sized screen.
Don’t get me wrong! I’m not too old to learn new stuff! I‘m Program Quality Director
lookng forward to Pathways and what it has to offer. I plan to Donna Stark, DTM
be one of the early adopters, and have a goal to be one of the
first in District 7 to earn a DTM in the new program. Club Growth Director
Yes, I’m getting old—gracefully, I think. Life isn’t passing John Rodke, DTM
me by too quckly. Flip phones are just fine wth me, Google
keeps me updated on the latest phrases, and seekng out new Finance Manager
challenges keeps me engaged and at the top of my game. Jill Ward, ACB, ALB
So what have you noticed about yourself lately. Are you
gettng better wth age? or just getting older? Are you using your Administrative Manager
Toastmasters membership to stay at the top of your game? Life Rodger Cook, ACB, ALB
is short, and every minute counts. Before you know it, you’ll be
looking out over a sea of younger colleagues and findng yourself Public Relations Manager
saying, you may be too young to remember this. . . Phyllis Harmon, DTM
