Q: What interests you about Spoken Word? Three Division Champions snag
A: I think it is a creative form of communication.
It allows me to express myself in a way that I find trophies on May 7th

very enjoyable. It is important to find joy while

you are speaking and poetry gives me a creative

outlet for processing my thoughts.

Q: As you practiced your speech for competi-
tion, how did you keep it fresh and not sound
over rehearsed?
A: I didn’t practice it that much. I would make
sure I had it memorized. But aside from the
day before the speech contest I wouldn’t spend
more than 15 minutes on practicing it.

Q: On the day of competition, what’s your
favorite way to prepare for your seven minutes
on stage?
A: My favorite way to prepare is to have fun
and try and get to know the competition. They
all have great stories and it’s really fun to get
to know them before we all go on stage. At the
end of the day we are only competing against
ourselves.
